Very Berry Belated!

This may seem slightly out of the ordinary, as my close friend's birthday was in July. But I had quite the guilty conscience after not following through with the birthday post I had in my head, and was too lazy to carry out. So here's to my very own Rajy Raj, who is a few days away from finishing school for the summer! Happy very belated 19th birthday boo! Just imagine that you saw this a month earlier. Cause it would have been the exact same.

And while we're at it. Further birthday shout outs to my girls Nat (belated) and Kat (upcoming).

Yours Truly,

I thoroughly recommend watching Gnomeo and Juliet. Mainly because it is the cutest movie on the face of the earth. But I guess the Elton John-clad soundtrack's not too shabby either. I just couldn't resist putting this clip up. It may take a second to load, but I think it's worth it. I hope this will coerce you into watching the movie.

I love this woman.

Not only is she arguably the most amazing actress of all time, but she manages to carry herself with the utmost level of class throughout everything she does. She is highly respected amongst the masses, and has inspired generations of actresses alike. But what I admire most about Meryl, is her seamless way of staying out of the spotlight and celebrity grunge. She is an artist by every definition of the word. And most importantly, she never lets herself get caught up in what the industry identifies as an 'ideal beauty'Which is the very reason she has aged so gracefully. Making her the epitome of what I consider to be a classic beauty

So here's to you Meryl. Keep on shining, star

Perfection.

Even though I first came across this precious find a few months ago in a soundtrack of the movie it was made for, I have found an even greater appreciation for it lately, as I keep hearing it in shows all over the place. I don't even have words for how amazing this song is. For one thing, the music and lyrics. And at the very least, it makes for a great montage sequence in shows, movies and music videos. But enough of that. Take a listen for yourself.

PS. I love the Weepies.

"A father is a banker provided by nature."

On this joyous and sacred occasion, I thought it was as good a time as any to share one of the funniest things my dad has ever said.
Upon leaving the allergy doctor a few months ago, and being diagnosed with a pretty severe allergy to cats and a milder allergy to pollen, dust and grass, I felt the need to say to my father, "Oh well, I'm still getting a cat when I'm older."
In which case, my padre looked at me in utter disbelief and quickly responded with, "KILL YOURSELF."
Keep in mind his adorable little accent. He was joking of course, but it was beyond hilarious. Because it was simply perfection in the form of the purest unadulterated reaction.
And if you knew my dad, this statement had a very clever double-meaning. The first part of it being, you might as well 'kill yourself,' cause you're gonna be that sick. And the second is, why don't you just 'kill yourself,' you're so stupid.
I hope you realize dad, that you will always be at your most humourous on your own intelligent wit, not with the corny jokes. That being said, I haven't had a chance to pick up your present yet, so this post will play the role of 'the gift' until further notice. And I hope you like the title, because it seriously sounds like something  you would say.
On that note, Happy Father's Day to all the faja's out there. I hope you all made it a special day for them.

                                                 Je t'aime Papa

Ps. If anyone's wondering who the people are in the photo, I couldn't tell you. I would put a picture of my handsome father up, but there are way too many creeps on the internet.

Dancing Queen

It may have been a short and simple exchange, but it was in that conversation when I realized something. Last week was my older sister's surprise birthday party. Turns out she had no idea, and we all had a really good time.
While making idle chit chat on the dance floor with my sister's boyfriend's close friend's sister's cousin, on what an amazing dancer she is and how much stamina she has (she dominated the dance floor for a good 3 hours), she let me know that she was actually 39 years old. I couldn't believe it. Trust me when I say this, she did not look 39 years old, 29 maybe. She went on to tell me that her acquired skills came in the form of dancing with her two children whenever she can, everyday. She was truly the definition of a Dancing Queen. And that's when it hit me. That's what I want. Exactly that. To be 39 years old, looking great and dancing with my children everyday. It may seem like quite an obvious statement (doesn't everyone want that?) but it felt like much more. Like the only way to keep yourself young and youthful, is to do just that, not lose sight of the kid in you and keep that spirit alive. In my humble opinion of course. But that's definitely what I'll be striving for when I'm older.

                                                      To Never. Stop. Playing.

Just something to think about.

Sincerely,
-S
